Introduction

Special Education Center

In 1984, Taiwan’s Special Education Act demanded that colleges and universities with special education departments establish special education centers. The National Pingtung University Special Education Center, established in Sept. 1980 following the Ministry of Education’s approval, focuses on promoting and implementing special education, assisting in identifying, teaching, consulting, and counseling special education students, strengthening special education-related teaching and research, and improving the quality of special education services to achieve the goal of equal educational opportunities. Our Center provides professional and diversified special education services, the most important of which are as follows:

Main Mission

Provide special education consultation services via a variety of channels such as telephone, Internet, and face-to-face meetings; and visit and counsel schools offering special education counseling.

  • Special education-related research and study training

Organize professional special education-related research and study activities as well as special education seminars and enhance the teaching and counseling-related knowledge of special education teachers at all levels to ensure that counseling is provided to students with disabilities.

  • Publication of professional special education journals

Nanping Special Education (initially Pingtung Teacher Special Education), founded in Oct. 2001 and released annually, shares special education philosophies, teaching materials and methods, and practical teaching experiences, and publishes research articles on specialized topics.

  • Use and promotion of learning assistance dogs

Allow learning assistance dogs to be used in schools at all levels, community libraries, and community care locations in the Kaohsiung and Pingtung regions, introduce and expand the use of learning assistance dogs in special education and other fields, and enrich the concept of “impacting life with life” via services for the elderly such as early intervention counseling.

  • Communication training and counseling services for children with special needs

Offer free communication training and counseling services to local children with special needs, provide a complete counseling supervision and training system, and promote the cultivation of people with multiple talent, fulfilling the University’s social responsibilities.
